Jose Mourinho talks on press conference against Sporting

José Mourinho, press conference against Sporting, 29 September 2014

A kind of home matchJosé Mourinho was born and grew up in Setúbal, near Lisbon, and after a spell as assistant manager at Estrela da Amadora and a period as a scout at Ovarense, he was appointed as Sir Bobby Robson’s assistant at Sporting in 1992. He worked for 18 months at the club before following the former England manager to Porto.

“That was a fantastic time until the moment they sacked Mr Robson. It gives me a sense of pride. I was all I could be at this club. I tried to help the team the best way I could, at the beginning of my career. There is no grudge, no sense of ill-feeling at how I left. It’s been a long time since I faced a Portuguese team, so it is a great joy to return. Sporting were in economic crisis for a while and, because of that, it was out of Champions League for a while. Now they are back fighting for domestic titles again and every Portuguese, whether they are a fan of this club or not, is pleased to see them back. Now their first home match back in the Champions League is against Chelsea: a team managed by a Portuguese coach. I think for them it’s a super motivation.” — José Mourinho, press conference 29.09.14

Jose Mourinho on Frank Lampard after Chelsea vs Manchester City 1-1

Jose Mourinho talked about Frank Lampard after Chelsea vs Manchester City 1-1, 21 Sept 2014

“Frank Lampard is a Man City player, I don’t believe in stories of passion and heart, maybe I am too pragmatic in football.
When he decided to go to a direct competitor to Chelsea then love stories are over.
He did his job as a professional.

He got a good reception and this is England and this is Chelsea. Chelsea people never forget what Chelsea people do at the club.
It happened to me when I was manager of Inter. It is Chelsea’s culture and beauty.”

Manchester City 1-1 Chelsea FC,
21 September 2014
Goals:  (71’ Schürrle / 85’ Lampard)

“It’s one more game, three more points, but obviously when matches are between title contenders every point makes a difference.
We respect them totally because they deserve that respect.
At the same time, we believe in ourselves and we want to win.”

--- Another Story ---

Pellegrino - I mean Pellegrini - and Mou can’t help it …
Pellegrini:
"I think during 90 minutes we played against a small team trying to defend, trying to keep 10 players in front of their goal while we were a team that wanted to win from the beginning.”

Mourinho:
"Pellegrino (o !) many times he says he never speaks about me and my team but he keeps doing the same thing. I am the one that does as he says. I don’t comment on his words. Don’t ask me about his words, I am not interested in that.”

José Mourinho about Cristiano Ronaldo, TVI interview

Chelsea Manger José Mourinho talk about Cristiano Ronaldo, on the TVI interview, 18 September 2014.

“Which relationship? More important than the relationship are the memories, because a relationship does not exist. He is a Real Madrid player, I am the Chelsea manager, we don’t meet on the street.

Relationship, no. Memories, yes. And the memories I keep - I always try to do that - are the good ones and not so much the less good ones.

And I have to remember a young man who was a goal scoring machine who helped me - and a lot! - to win a Spanish League, a Copa del Rey and a Spanish Supercup with Real.

I probably also helped him, we all helped each other mutually to make history, winning the Spanish League with 100 points, facing the best Barcelona side in history.

Of Cristiano, as a player, I keep the best memories, and obviously I wish him the best in his career. More so at the national team than the club, of course, but also at the club, because when I leave a club, I leave with a sense of belonging and I like it that my former players continue to be successful.”

José Mourinho press conference prematch Chelsea vs FC Schalke, September 2014

"In this moment I only think about not playing in the Europa League. I want my club to succeed in the group phase. It would be very bad for the level of the group to go to the Europa League."

"Do I want to win it again? Of course I want to. The tournament is part of my history and, even if they don’t sometimes know it, I am a part of the tournament’s history."

"‘But my motivation is always the same. What drives me is to try to win. I work for my club, for my players and for my supporters, not for myself."

“We are far from perfection. We try to improve every day.”

"There was an evolution from this year to last year. The team has better conditions to play better football, even though we did well last season. It’s difficult to do better but we feel we have the conditions to try to do so with a better team and a better group."

"I don’t see any relation because of the fact Schalke lost the last match. Probably it will make them stronger."

"It’s also true because Eden made public, even before the World Cup, that he wants to stay and he wants to be here for more years. It will be a question of time but it will end with a new contract."

Jose Mourinho on this Transfer Window (2014)

Jose Mourinho - The genius one. World-best transfer management

“I think we did our business well.
I think I did well my part by analysing the situation at a very early stage, which was during the last season.”

"Swansea have a good team already for a couple of years … playing good football since Laudrup’s time."

Valdano seems trying to take revenge on Jose Mourinho

"I’ve never heard in public or in private a football statement from Mourinho worthy to be remembered."

"He is a character tailored to these noisy and empty times. I couldn’t understand him because he is in the antipodes of my sensitivity.
Intelligence and ego are enemies. And when they collide, the ego wins.”

"If Guardiola is Mozart, Mourinho is Salieri. He would be a great musician if there were no Mozart."

— Jorge Valdano in his new book
